Baby Jake Stats

Hi All!

I realized that I did not put any of Jacob's arrival details on the blog! He came into this world on Monday, June 30th at 11:08 a.m. weighing 8 pounds and 6 ounces. He measured 19 3/4 inches long. He has quite a set of lungs on him too! Maybe it's too soon to tell, but he seems like a very calm and mellow little guy. His first visitors included Oma, Pop Pop & Memare and Opa arrived the next day. All were excited to be around to see our newest family member!
After my surgery, my pain medication wasn't working so it was a really tough afternoon and evening. The pain was intense. Finally, I received different meds, which helped tremendously but made me really sleepy. The next day I spent resting and trying to recover since the pain was finally under control.
One thing that we noticed in the hospital was that he likes to "spray" you during diaper changes. It happened to Brian about 3 times just as he was about to finish up. And, he cries the whole time you are changing him. He really hates it. This little situation has continued at home and I think he has gotten me another 3 times, not to mention himself! Ick. It's also worse during the middle of the night when you're just ready to crawl back into the bed. Brian wants to nickname him "Shooter". His aim is terrific.
We came home on Wednesday afternoon. Jacob likes to sleep alot, primarily during the daytime. He likes to eat frequently and seems most hungry between 1 - 4 a.m.!
Yesterday, we took him for his first visit to the doctor's office. He received a very thorough check-up and a "thumbs up" from the doctor. He had lost 7 ounces, which is perfectly normal. We'll be taking him back for another check-in at the 2-week mark.
I don't get a chance to see his eyes open very much, but this morning he was a little more alert and interested in looking around.
Hopefully, we'll have a chance to introduce him to some of our friends this weekend. Stay tuned for more pictures.
